Final Video Story

In my final video story, I only added a “Thanks for watching” caption at the end. Although some of my peer critiques suggested audio in the beginning since I was getting inspiration from videos from Instagram influencers I wanted to match the same perspective. In the videos, the influencers never talk and usually, the video is straight forward. I wanted to do the same and especially show that fashion is a way of self-expression without words.

Overall, my final video shows my own sense of style and how I can make different looks. Although my website is about female fashion icons, I wanted to show my own side of fashion. I got my inspiration from some Instagram videos I would see on my explore page. Where Instagram influencer would promote certain brands by styling the brand’s clothes throughout the video. The b-rolls I put at the beginning of the video was originally used for a different video idea and used to scatter across the project. But since I changed my idea, I used the b-rolls at the beginning of the video. I also decided to not add any dialogue to the project, just to represent that fashion speaks for itself!

Some of the technical issues I had using premiere were that zoomed into my videos rather than reflecting the actual size and the music was muted. This was very frustrating for me because my video story was very simple, and I assumed it would be very easy to put in. I had to refer to youtube to help me fix these problems, which many people also have encountered.

When I recorded each video, I made sure it was very simple and quick to fit 1 minute. I think it would have been more challenging if I did an interview styled project. With my videos, I was able to simply drop the videos I wanted to put in, add a title, music, and fade in and out into other clips. I also added two “fun” clips at the end to show that I enjoy my time styling clothes and feeling confident in my own style.

I used creative commons to find my music, which was very upbeat and fun, and I felt like it matched my fun energy on the project.

Draft Logo

My logo is a silhouette of a woman that is wearing a very large hat with a bold “A” on the very front of her face. I decided to do this logo because not only did I want the logo to be represented by a woman, but I wanted her to be fashionable and have curls/ waves instead of just a silhouette or straight hair. I added just the “A” to keep the Logo simple so that the woman and hat don’t overbear each other. I used a google image (not copyrighted of course) as my inspiration to sketch out the silhouette of the woman. My original idea was a large “A” with a woman’s face inside, and a similar hat hanging on the edge of the A. I decided to not use that logo because I figured that it may not be as easily interpreted by the audience and perhaps it would be a better artwork piece rather than a logo. In Illustrator, I pretty much used the pen tool to trace out the full logo, but I struggled with tracing certain parts in order to merge the layers or place them either in front or behind each other. The hair was the hardest part since the spray tool was not giving me realistic and kinky curls that I wanted. I then decided to use the pen tool to create waves and use the “variable-width profile” to hopefully give dimension and depth for each wave. From there on I then decided to use the “variable-width profile” and heightened the stroke size to make the silhouette bolder in certain areas instead of the full body. I wanted my logo to express feminine aspects but also not overly glamorous so that the logo can be simple and easy to understand.

Final Graphic Collage

The following photo collage represents different examples of powerful women. Through style, business, and home life women have shown different leadership skills. Three examples are The Creatives, The Rebel, and The Harvester.

The Creatives is represented by the image of the woman with butterflies in her hair faded into a background of flowers and a butterfly. I personally took both of the pictures and I combined them because I felt that they represented how creativity blossoms. There are many iconic women whose creativity have the ability to inspire generations. The woman in the photo is a dear friend of mine, who inspires me every day with her music and aspirations in life. She wanted me to direct a photoshoot for her upcoming album and only asked that she had butterflies in the shoot. At that point I decided to add fake butterflies into her hair and around her mouth, to represent her the creativity sprouting out all around her. I chose the background with the butterfly and the flowers to better emphasize the vision and include a real butterfly that I had seen in a botanical garden. My photoshop process used both photos to blend on each layer. I softened the edges of the photo of the woman with my brush tool and decided to leave it from there so that it wouldn’t be too overwhelming

The Rebel is represented by the image of the woman in a large tulle skirt with two images layering on top of each other. I chose this because I wanted to emphasize the rebel inside of everyone. Whether it is shown physically, mentally or emotionally I believe that being a rebel can either be liberating to oneself or to others. The photos came from a photo shoot that I had directed. I wanted to test out a dark style inside of a warehouse with whatever props I could find in the space (which was a blue chair and two fake plants). When I photoshopped the photos, I not only blended the two but I changed some color balances to make it less gloomy and more visible.

The Harvester is represented by the image of a flower that I had taken in a botanical garden. I was actually quite surprised by how the image came out so clear, especially using my iPhone. This flower represents the Iconic woman that continues to grow by age, mentality, and through others. Just like a flower, whether the circumstances around the plant is positive or negative, the seed will continue to grow with proper soil, sunlight, and water. I believe every woman has a growing period and although it may be very painful, life proves that there is a beauty at the end. I photoshopped this picture by simply putting a photo filter, and color balance to create a warm but crisp tone.

Women in Fashion

Women in fashion is a topic that is often discussed yet rarely understood. The very women who take great courage to express themselves through fashion are the women in our daily lives.  This blog is dedicated to inspiring, uplifting, and reminding the world that iconic women have shown their resilience from the choices of shoes, a bold lipstick, a messy ponytail, a deep-v blouse or a knee-length skirt. Although to some, these choices may be insignificant (Which is fine) it is very crucial to remember that without the muse there is no statement, no style, and no argument that can be delivered.

Fashion is the highlight and one of the biggest purposes of my life. But I would be ignorant if I did not recognize the discrimination and lack of diversity in the industry, especially in the use of models. There is not enough representation in the industry to truly value its consumers. Not only is there a huge lack of diversity but there are many people in the industry who have huge responsibilities in the decision processes that do not even know what true diversity is. I aim to fight for people of all colors, disabilities, sizes and age groups to be appreciated and honored through fashion. Fashion should be a safe space that allows creativity to flow effortlessly in the physical form of clothing. As the industry seems to be filled with greed and focuses on only their profits, there are still innocent people who are dying and suffering from the labor of fast fashion.

On certain blog posts, I will be using materials from photoshoots that I have personally directed. I hope that this will potentially help convey an artistic platform for the blog. I am also looking forward to Unit 2 and Unit 3 projects, in which I would love to involve different women that personally inspire me in my daily life.
